Experience the character of Epirus, the National Park of Zagoria offers refreshing greenery, traditional stone built villages and the stunning Vikos Gorge.Ioannina is the attrative lakeside capital of Epirus, full of character and history.
Whilst in northern mainland Greece you must travel inland to the scenery of mountainous Epirus. Passing small towns and villages you will see an insight to Greek lifestyles away from the coastal resorts. The progressing new road system of Greece now allows us to visit the Epirot capital of Ioannina and the Zagoria National Park from Parga in one day.
Travelling north from Parga we arrive first at the lakeside in Ioannina, from here you can get a real feeling of this attractive historic city. Ali Pasha´s museum shows an insight to the 400 year Ottoman occupation from the 1400´s. The old turkish shopping bazaar has interesting narrow streets and traditional shops, further up the road is the modern shopping area. Cafe´s overlook the lake towards the island and the rising Pindos mountains beyond.
In Zagoria, stone villages and amazing arched bridges sit in the ruggard landscape with a real atmosphere of timelessness. The Vikos gorge is a stunning sight stretching out under you from the view point of Agia Paraskevi.
